8 Scope and Sequence Unit 1: Closed-syllable – 3 sounds
Unit 2: Closed syllable – 4-6 sounds and exceptions Unit 3: Bonus letters and welded sounds Unit 4: Suffixes: -s, -es, -ed, -ing Unit 5: Compound & multisyllabic words (closed syllable) **Bonus Review Unit** Unit 6: Vowel and consonant suffixes; spelling rules Unit 7: v-e syllable type; multisyllabic words; silent e

Open Syllable

12 Closed Syllable only has 1 vowel
vowel is followed by 1 or more consonants (closed in) vowel is short

13 Vowel-Consonant-e Syllable
syllable has a vowel, then consonant, and then an e the vowel has a long sound the e is silent

14 Open Syllable this syllable has only 1 vowel which is the last letter
the vowel sound is long
