Agenda 2/28 1)To computer lab (Library Lab) to do practice for Ch. 36 & 37 2)I will check notes while we are there Homework – Read AP Lab 9 Transpiration and prelab due tomorrow – 2 parts Ch. 38 & 39 Notes due next Monday, test next Friday Me Prep – get out potometers(0.1 ml!!) and tubs for water with 6-12 ml syringes & ring stands – check my directions from last year, get bean plants 6-8 inches tall (take tubing to be sure stems will fit) and allow for extra plants

Agenda 3/1 Go through Ch. 36 slides – 25 min Check prelabs while you watch Lab Intro – 25 min http://www.phschool.com/science/biology_place/labbench/l ab9/intro.html Look at set up & plan for tomorrow, practice fill potometers (assign groups, 2 of each, 8 total) – 5 min Homework – Reread lab and be ready to do 1 st part tomorrow Ch. 38 & 39 Notes due next Monday, test next Friday Me – bring 2 fans, get 2 lights with 100W light bulbs, Vaseline, spray bottle, small ziploc bags

Agenda 3/2 Lab 9 – 1 st part Set up potometer – 15 min max Let potometer equilibrate – 10 min, important to do this full 10 min – get your set up during this time (fan, etc.) –Light group – tape your plant lower so heat sink (huge flask) will be between light and plant –Mist group – do not tape the bottom of your bag shut! –Fan- should look like a strong wind is blowing your leaves! 21-30 minutes of readings and then quick remove leaves and sketch (For readings, record in table 9.1 what the potometer says and REMEMBER TO READ IT TO THE THOUSANDTHS!) Homework – Do as much of analysis questions as can, DO YOUR CALCULATIONS FOR Table 9.2 – see next slide Reread part B for tomorrow Ch. 38 & 39 Notes due next Monday, test next Friday Me – come in early tomorrow to melt paraffin (at least 2 hrs in hot water bath) and set up prepared slides of dicot and monocot)

Calculations Get square cm of leaf area, then divide by 10,000 to get it in square meters Table 9.2 – This is CUMULATIVE, so for the 6 minutes, you are taking the 6min reading minus the 0 min reading in ml, etc. So your numbers should go up. (Show sample data) Tomorrow when all your calculations are done, you will average yours with the other group that had the same conditions and record those on the class worksheet.

Agenda 3/3 Lab 9 – 2 nd part – look at Lab Bench first Meanwhile- share data for 1 st part so can graph- remember may need to graph using Scientific notation Work on analysis Homework – Finish lab analysis Ch. 38 & 39 Notes due next Monday, test next Friday Lab Abstract for 1 st part due next Wed.

Agenda 3/4 Look at demo microscopes & sketch Groups that not made cuts- go over technique Go over Lab 9 Analysis and get your graph done - share Ch. 37 slides – I’ll email these if I don’t get to them Homework- Ch. 38 & 39 Notes due next Monday, test next Friday Lab Abstract for 1 st part due next Wed.
