10 Intimidation, Bullying and Harassment

11 Harassment is… Bothering people who do not want to be bothered Touching people who do not want to be touched Touching people in inappropriate ways

12 Harassment can be girl to girl, boy to girl, girl to boy, boy to boy, student to teacher or teacher to student Students will not touch other students or teachers inappropriately Students will not bother students who do not want to be bothered All incidents of harassment will be reported to an administrator

13 Social Expectations Being social is the ability to work and play together

14 We expect students… To be respectful to teachers and others at all times. Not to curse teachers, administrators or each other at any time. To respect each other’s space and property. To learn to deal with conflict in ways other than fighting. To learn and teachers to teach in an environment that is safe for everyone Who are having problems to report that problem to the teacher and/ or administrators

15 ATTENDANCE Basics

16 Attendance Policy If a student is absent from school, that student must bring an official note (court document, obituary, or doctor’s note) the next morning explaining why he or she was absent on the previous day. The official note must be turned into the attendance office the day following the absence before going to second period.

17 Truancy Students who are absent 3 or more days are considered truant. These students will not be allowed to participate in any school related activities including but not limited to athletics, field trips, and graduation.

18 How can a truancy be cleared? Students will receive a copy of his or her attendance, which identifies absences as excused or unexcused. The teacher will sign if the absence was in fact excused and return the attendance sheet to the attendance office. Otherwise, students will take the copy home for parents to provide documentation for the absence. (personal illness, death or serious illness of an immediate family member, court appearance, or a religious holiday or event)

19 UNACCEPTABLE. To be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late. To be late is UNACCEPTABLE. Tardy Policy

20 Students must be seated in 2 nd period by 8:10am. NO STUDENT will be allowed to enter 2 nd period after 8:10am without an admit from the office. Students can only receive an admit if accompanied by a parent. Those who do not receive an admit will be sent to the tardy room (cafeteria).

21 MUST Students entering the building after 8:30am MUST be accompanied by an adult.

22 MUST Students who are late for 3 rd -7 th periods will be assigned after school detention. If a students does not attend after school detention, an overnight suspension will be issued. Before the suspension is cleared, detention MUST be served.

23 ALL ALL students who are tardy for class must receive an admit from the attendance office.

24 Entering the Building Basics Rules for Entering the building

25 Students may… Enter the building beginning at 7:30am. Enter the building through the front doors only (Lauderdale entrance only) Not stand in front of the building after 7:30. Only go to the cafeteria or atrium area before the 8am bell rings. Students are not allowed to walk through the building for any reason and NO FOOD is permitted in the atrium area.

26 After entering the building, students… Must be dressed in appropriate uniform attire and come through the metal detectors. Must have all bags searched. All confiscated items may be picked up on Fridays by parents only from 3:15 – 3:45 Students are allowed to carry CLEAR BACKPACKS ONLY.

27 Students are expected to… Be in their 2 nd period class by 8:10am. Have a parent sign them in if they arrive after 8:30. Without a parent students will be sent to the tardy room and receive an overnight suspension. Parents must clear the suspension before the student can return to school.

28 Dress Code Basics MCS Uniform Policy

29 All Students must be in uniform from 7:30am – 3:00pm Students will not be allowed in any classroom if not in compliance with the uniform policy.

30 Uniform Colors Tan, navy blue or black bottoms White long or short sleeve shirt with a collar. T-shirts must be worn as undergarments AND must be WHITE. All accessories must be uniform colors (belts, socks, jewelry, hair accessories etc…)

31 Uniform style over or under sized (Pants must fit at the waist, not being over or under sized (No sagging, no tights as pants or spandex is allowed.). Skirts, shorts, and jumpers must stop at or below the knee. NO DENIM may be worn as part of the uniform. All male students are required to wear belts with their shirts tucked inside the pants. Ladies who wear belts must wear them through the belt loops and they must be uniform colors.

32 Uniform style continued… Pants must be one of the following- straight leg boot cut capri cargo cropped full length All uniform clothing must be plain with no logos, names, pictures or insignias visible.

33 COATS??? Light jackets, sweaters, vests and cardigans are permitted, but must be one of the uniform colors in order to be worn throughout the school day. Heavy (winter) coats and jackets are to be stored in lockers during the school day.

34 Shoes??? Shoes can have a heel no higher than one and a half inches. All shoes (athletic, boot, sandal, or dress shoes) must be uniform colors ONLY. All sandals must have a strap on them.

36 Cafeteria Basics Rules for the Lunch room

37 While in the cafeteria students must… Remain in the cafeteria the entire lunch period unless permission has been given by the monitor on duty to do otherwise. Remain seated unless called on to line up, throw trash away or put trays away. Clean up not leaving trash on the floors. tables, or in chairs. Not throw food or other things. Not throw away dishes Not bring food or drinks out of the cafeteria.

38 Hallway Basics The expected behavior in the halls.

39 While in the halls of BTW, always… Walk to the right, including on the stairs. Use quiet speaking tones. Keep moving. Do NOT stop to talk. Keep cell phones and electronic devices concealed/ put away. Show respect to adults and other students. Profanity IS NOT allowed.

40 Listening Basics The expected behavior concerning cell phones and school announcements.

41 When the All-Call System comes on for any reason- at any point in the day- all students are expected to be silent and listen.

42 Regarding cell phones, students… Are not allowed to have cell phones or electronic devices at school. Whose cell phones are visible will be taken and returned to parents only on Fridays from 3:15- 3:45 Be reminded that the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items brought to school against school policy.

43 Dismissal Basics Rules regarding class dismissal and dismissal from school.

44 Students must… Take care of personal business between classes. Students will only be allowed out of class for true emergencies. Remain seated when the bell rings. Teachers dismiss class not bells. Remain in class the first 15 and last 15 minutes of class- NO EXCEPTIONS!

45 At the end of the school day, Students must… Remain in class until the 3:00 bell rings Go quickly to their lockers then exit the building by 3:15, unless in a supervised practice, tutoring or detention. Apply regular hallway rules. NOT loiter outside the school building.

46 All students dismissed at 2:00 must exit the building by 2:05. No student will be allowed to check out after 2:30pm
