4 4 Robert Goddard is known as the Father of Modern Rocketry. He experimented in Massachusetts in the early 1900’s and then moved his operation to Roswell, New Mexico in 1930.

7 7 Reaching Orbit is all about achieving the right amount of velocity… 17,500 MPH Orbital 3,000 MPH Suborbital Sounding rockets can fly higher than orbital rockets If an orbital rocket were launched in a more vertical trajectory like a sounding rocket, it would go thousands of miles high, but it would eventually fall back to earth. In order to escape earth’s gravity, the rocket must reach a velocity of ~24,500 MPH
