3. International Day of Human Rights Human rights are celebrated annually on the 10 th of December each year. Our human rights range from having the right to a name to having the right to live in safety without fear of discrimination to the right to live. Not all countries share these rights and millions of people are exploited and abused each year. EVEN IN THE UK MANY PEOPLE ARE DENIED THEIR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS!!

4. Children's Rights Convention Article 6- You have the right to life There is a marked distinction between simply being alive and actually living. Article 36- You should be protected from activities which harm your development. Imagine the affect being a slave would have on you. You are protected, how would you feel without that protection?

5. Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 1- All humans are born free and equal Although not everyone is granted this right Article 4- No one shall be held in slavery and the slave trade will be prohibited in all forms. Although it still exists in a number of forms

6. Friday the 2 nd of December was the Abolition of Slavery Day

7. Do you think that slavery still exists today?

8. Child Trafficking trafficking is the illegal sale of children, people or goods. It is estimated that 1.2million children are trafficked each year. Most children who are trafficked end up: –Sexually exploited –Used as child labourers –Forced into conflict –Sold for adoption or marriage.

9. Child Trafficking Internationally People are reported to be trafficked from 127 countries to be exploited in 137 countries, affecting every continent and every type of economy.

10. Rights they are being denied The right to an education The right not to be treated as a slave The right to family The right to a childhood The right to play The right to freedom of speech And many, many more!

12. Child Trafficking UK Many children are brought to the UK. Most recently, in Scotland the first two people ever in the UK have been convicted under new trafficking legislation.

Amnesty International “ Yet if these feelings of disgust all over the world could be united into common action, something effective could be done” Peter Benenson Amnesty International Founder Amnesty International was formed in 1961 and this year celebrated its 50 th Anniversary Today, it is a global movement with over 3million supporters They play their role in the continued work of eradicating modern slavery 200 years after its abolition.

15. How can you be involved On Friday the school is holding a non- school uniform day. A portion of the money raised will got to human rights charities with the rest going to the schools main charities. By taking part you are already helping to remedy the lives of impoverished, starving and exploited human beings no different than you.
