Incorrect responses receive no points Responses need to be detailed to receive points. 5  The “Indian Wars”  After the Civil War, the U.S. engaged in many armed conflict with Native Americans west of the Mississippi.  Causes of conflict  Removal policy  Reservation policy  Land President Rutherford B Hayes admitted in 1887, “Many, if not most of our Indian Wars have had their origin in broken promises and acts of injustices on our part.”

6  Battle of Little Bighorn  Usually, Native Americans were defeated by the superior numbers and weapons technology of the United States Army.  However, a famous Native American victory occurred at the Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana.  General Custer attacked 2,000 Indians w/ only a few hundred soldiers (who all perished)
