4 Life History  He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, GA. His grandfather and father both were pastors at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

5 Parents  MLK Jr. parents were Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King.

6 Education  Dr. King graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 with a degree in sociology. He then received a Bachelors of Divinity in 1951 and then a Ph.d from Boston College in 1955.

7 Family Life  In Boston he met and later married Coretta Scott. Together they had 2 daughters and 2 sons.

8 Becoming a Civil Rights Leader  MLK Jr. was chosen to be pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama in 1954. While serving as pastor of the church Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man.

9 Montgomery Bus Boycott  On December 5, 1955 Dr. King led the Montgomery Bus Boycott. At that time African- Americans refused to use the public bus transportation in Montgomery. Due to his involvement in this his home was bombed. Thankfully his wife and baby daughter who were home at the time got out safely.

10 Achievements  On August 28, 1963, King led the largest demonstration ever. It was at this demonstration the “I have a dream” speech was spoken by MLK Jr. King and other leaders then met President John F. Kennedy. He won the Noble Peace Prize.

11 Relatives  MLK Jr. had a older sister named Willie Christine King and a younger brother Alfred Daniel King.

12 Hobbies and Interest  MLK Jr. main interests were civil rights & theology.

14 Why We Remember Him  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that everyone was equal. He changed the way everyone looked at each other. I chose him because he has been my greatest hero since I was a little. He changed the world the world by not paying attention to what others thought of him and just believing in himself.
