MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited Streamline Your Data Understand How Inventor Searches… File Reuse Content Center Libraries Unique Files

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited File Classification - Definitions File Reuse – Unique: Files that are unique to a particular job. Never reused in other jobs. – Static Files: Files that should not be altered. Used in multiple jobs. Content Center – DB Driven Standard parts Libraries – Common Parts, iParts – Read Only Unique Files – Located in Workgroup/Workspace – Reusable Assemblies???

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited How A Project File Works Content Center – Defined as an absolute path in an assembly Workspace – Location of the project workspace depends on the type of project. – Single User: Location determined by IPJ Location. Might be local or network location – Vault : Typically ( and recommended) Local Drive Folder. ( Mapped as User Workspace) Libraries – Common Parts, iParts – Read Only. Defined as an absolute path in an assembly Workgroup – Unique Parts – Shared Assemblies – Vault does not support defined workgroups – Other project types: Workgroups are located outside the project Workspace Path.

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited Understanding the Resolve Dialog Rule 1 – If you move files defined as an absolute path in an assembly, you WILL have to resolve the new location path once. Saving the updated assembly preserves the new path information.

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited Understanding the Resolve Dialog Rule 1 – If you move files defined as an absolute path in an assembly, you WILL have to resolve the new location path once. Saving the updated assembly preserves the new path information. Rule 2 – If you move files defined as a relative path in an assembly, you may have to resolve the new location once.

Saving the updated assembly preserves the new path information. Rule 3 – If you see the resolve dialog again, then: – A. Your data file structure is incorrect. Your assembly file contains files located OUTSIDE the project search path. – B: Your assembly file (iam) is located in a Library or Content Center subfolder path, or is otherwise designated Read Only.

Rule 4 – Read rules 1 through 3!

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited Let’s Create Some Project Files!

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited Project File Resources Additional Resources The website link referenced on the title page: http://teknigroup.com/AU2007 will contain additional links, papers, exercises and an expanded version of this document. These links will be available by December 10th, 2007. Some files will be available on the site prior to that date, so that you may do the exercises outlined in this publication.http://teknigroup.com/AU2007 Additional references are available on the Autodesk website. Search on “Inventor Project File” Help files on Projects are available in Inventor Help – Search on "Project File". A free “Skill Builder” Live Meeting session on projects will be available in January 2008, at: http://teknigroup.com – Event Calendar. Free Skill Builders are normally held every month. You may also contact me directly regarding this subject by email: djeffrey@designexcellence.com or by telephone at (260) 399-6615.

MA-401 Autodesk Inventor Project Files Revisited Thank You! Please fill out your evaluation forms! – Evaluations are critical! We need your honest feedback! – In Comments, be sure to request that more sessions should be repeated… – Ask for more Manufacturing Sessions! I will be available after this session for extended questions.
