3. This is a sea star like ‘Pearl’. ‘Pearl’ and other starfish live on the rocky ocean floor. They eat clams, oysters, and coral. From each of their 5 arms they have an eyespot that is actually just a light sensor ‘Pearl’ has the ability to regenerate, or grow back, her arms. Click to see a labeled picture of a sea star.

4. ‘Marlin’ and ‘Nemo’ are Clown fish. They live among anemone. The anemone's tentacles kill other fish that touch them, but the Clown fish seems to be immune to its poison. Clown Fish like ‘Marlin’ and ‘Nemo’ eat the anemone's leftovers. They wait until the anemone paralyzes and eats a fish, then help themselves to bits that the anemone leaves uneaten. 6. ‘Bruce’ is a Great White Shark. He has 3,000 teeth at any one time. Only the underbelly of the great white shark is actually white; its top surface is gray to blue gray. Great whites do not chew their food. Their teeth rip prey into mouth- sized pieces which are swallowed whole. Click to see a labeled picture of a great white shark.

7. ‘Pear’ is an octopus; she has a eight arms each arm has two rows of suction cups. They catch prey with their arms, then kill it by biting it with their tough beak. In order to escape predators, octopuses can squirt black ink into the water, allowing the octopus to escape. The octopus swims by spewing water from its body, a type of jet propulsion. 9. ‘Bloat’ is a pufferfish when he is threatened, he puffs up to about twice its normal size by gulping water. Many parts of the blowfish contain an extremely strong, paralyzing poison. They eat corals, sponges, sea urchins, other echinoderms, and small crustaceans. Pufferfish crush and grind up their prey with their heavy, fused teeth. 10. ‘Crush’ and ‘Squirt’ are Sea Turtles. They have four flipper-like legs and a shell that is attached to their backbone. They cannot pull their head and legs into the shell. Adult female Sea Turtles return to the beach where they were born to lay up to 200 soft- shelled eggs in the sand. When the baby turtles hatch, they immediately head for the nearby water. 12. ‘Sheldon’ is a Seahorse; A type of small fish that have armored plates all over their body (they don't have scales). They live in seaweed beds in warm water and are very slow swimmers. Seahorses can change their color to camouflage (hide) themselves in order to hide from enemies. The sea horse is the only animal in which the father is pregnant.
