3 Male Anatomy Penis: Allows passage of urine and semen Has many nerve endings to provide sensation Scrotum: Muscular sac which is shorter when cold, longer when warm Holds testes Controls temperature Provides sensation

4 Testes: Produce sperm and sex hormones Each is made of 500-1200 feet2 of tightly coiled tubes Epididymis: Sight of sperm maturation Vas deferens: Stores sperm Allow passage of sperm Big around as sewing thread

5 Seminal Vesicles: Contributes sugar to semen for nourishing the sperm Semen: Helps sperm live longer and travel better Roughly teaspoon per ejaculation Prostate Gland: Produces most of the liquid that makes up semen

6 Cowper’s Glands (aka bulbourethral glands): Produce fluid called pre-ejaculate that cleanses the urethra of acid (from urine) to protect the sperm

8 Female Anatomy Uterus: Houses and protects baby Allows nutrient & waste exchange with placenta Nourishes embryo before the placenta grows Cervix: Bottom section of the uterus Produces fluids to help sperm travel Produces a mucous plug to keep germs out during pregnancy

10 Ova: Eggs Ovaries: Store eggs Fallopian Tubes: Passage way from ovaries to uterus Vulva: Protect opening of urethra and vagina, like eyelids protect eyes Made up of labia majora, labia minora, and clitoris
