3 Draft Plan Phase II Planning Committee Charge The committee was charged with carefully considering and articulating aspects relative to three topics: A new identity and shared vision for a new organizational entity Determine synergies and vital endeavors in teacher preparation, adult education, workforce/professional development. Consider resources and structure that will maximize mutual goals and outcomes

4 A new college that focuses on: challenges and opportunities of a 21 st School of Education rigorous and relevant degree programs that engage traditional and adult students (undergraduate and graduate) working adults who want to complete or start a degree and/or advance their career an entrepreneurial office that delivers certificates, seminars, and online programming for professionals and community Phase II: Planning Committee

5 Timeline April 2014: The Phase I Vision Committee was formed May 2014: First meeting of Phase I Vision Committee May 2014-August 2014: Weekly meetings to discuss the charge of the committee and the function of a potential College of Education and Professional Studies August 2014-December 2014: Bi-weekly committee meetings and communication with CCE and SOE faculty and staff and Provost December 2014: Meet with CCE and SOE faculty to discuss an overall college vision and key strategies in accomplishing the vision; CCE and SOE faculty and staff approve the vision

6 Timeline December 2014: The committee met with Provost to discuss the next phase of the process; two new committee members added (one from CCE and one from SOE). January 2015: The Phase II Planning Committee was formed to discuss the structure and function of a new college. January 2015: Meetings with external constituents in industry and education to gain an “outside-in” perspective. January 2015-May 2015: Met bi-weekly to discuss vision, mission, strategies, goals, and action steps of a new college; regular updates with CCE faculty and staff and Provost about progress; focus groups with external constituents in industry and education. 7 May 2015-August 2015: Weekly meetings to discuss function and proposed structure June 2015: Met with Provost to discuss proposed college structure; created a communication plan for faculty and staff August 2015: First draft of new college proposal sent to CCE and SOE faculty and staff September 1: CCE and SOE forum to discuss ideas and questions on proposal September 2015-present: Bi-weekly meetings; creation and dissemination of a revised report; meetings with CCE and SOE faculty and staff, Provost, FSEC, and Council of Deans. October 21: University-wide forum Timeline

8 CEPS Vision The URI College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) will be a flexible, accessible, scholarly, and experiential learning environment for students across the lifespan that will prepare teachers, adult learners, and professionals to be leaders in their careers and communities. CEPS Mission To advance and support learning for the continuous development and empowerment of all children, youth, and adults. Vision and Mission

9 Goal #1: Positively impact the lives of RI children, adults, and families through teaching and professional development activities. Goal #2: Create a community that celebrates diversity, equity, and lifelong learners Goal #3: Promote and enhance quality research and scholarship to address and impact school & community needs Goal #4: Capitalize on the urban location for expanding CCE, SOE, and URI program opportunities and help teachers and scholars gain the necessary knowledge and skills to affect positive change in urban settings. 12 Nontraditional and traditional students need comprehensive support and user-friendly access to services on both campuses. Services such as marketing, experiential learning, fundraising and development, and finance (i.e., budgets, payroll, contracts, and purchasing) will be college-wide. Information Technology, Library services, Student Services, and support staff with the same reporting structures that currently exist in CCE and SOE will remain (although SOE will need a dedicated IT person). Create a synergistic approach to meeting future demands and trends with a focus on access, social justice and lifelong learning.
