1 © 2011 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association, STEM  Center for Teaching and Learning™ Exploring Technology Unit 3 Lesson 1 Big Idea: Problems are often not a result of the desire to invent/innovate designs but often a result of a community based environmental problem. Addressing urgent community based environmental needs is a realistic need of technology that is best met through the use of problem solving and engineering design. Decisions to develop technologies often put economic and environmental concerns in direct competition with each other.
