13. VERBALS Infinitive= to + a verb infinitives can act like nouns, adj, or adv. Gerund= a verb ending in –ing gerunds always act like nouns Participles= the past or present participle participles act like adj.

14. VERBALS Examples- Munching and chomping, the small child talked with his mouth open. I asked to be excused. Eating had lost its appeal.

17. ADVERBS Answer the questions: HOW? WHEN? TO WHAT EXTENT? WHERE?

PREPOSITIONS 50 prepositions: about above across after against along amid among around at atop before behind below beneath beside between beyond but by concerning down during except for from in inside into like near of off on onto out outside over past regarding since through throughout to toward under underneath until up upon with within without A preposition REQUIRES a prepositional phrase! If it doesn’t have a phrase, then it is an ADVERB!
