6 Adult males may be more than 8 feet long, from nose to end of tail, and generally weigh between 130 and 150 pounds. Adult females can be 7 feet long and weigh between 65 and 90 pounds. Size: Mountain lions vary considerably in size. The head and body measure between 107-270 cm (42-96 in.) in length, and the tail measures 76-91 cm (30-36 in.). It can weigh as much as 100 kg (220 pounds), but most adult females weigh 34-80 kg (75- 176 lbs), and males range from 67 to 103 kg (148-227 lbs) The height at the shoulder is 66-79 cm (26-31 in.).

7 They usually hunt alone at night. They prefer to ambush their prey, often from behind. They usually kill with a powerful bite below the base of the skull, breaking the neck. They often cover the carcass with dirt, leaves or snow and may come back to feed on it over the course of a few days. 10  Breeding can take place throughout the year but most females give birth between April and July, following a 3 month gestation period.

11  The female gives birth to 2 to 3 young called kittens. She usually chooses a secluded spot beneath an uprooted tree or a rocky depression. She defends them vigorously against males lions, which may kill them. New born kittens are about 1 foot long and weigh about 1 pound.
