3 How Does MAP ® Work?  Questions appear on your computer screen  Use the mouse or keyboard to answer  Test will adjust based on how you answer  It will build a test just for you!

4 Why Take MAP ® Tests?  To find out exactly where you are performing in reading, math and science  To help your teacher know what you should be working on to improve  To set achievement goals for individual students and the whole school  To place students in appropriate courses

5 What do the RIT scores mean??? 5 Just like you can measure a student’s growth in height with a ruler and record his or her progress in inches, a student’s growth in reading or math can be measured on a MAP test and reported with a RIT score.

6 What do the RIT scores mean??? 6 Numbers are used everywhere to organize people. Just like a batting average is used in baseball to decide a batting order, RIT scores are used by East Detroit to help place students in appropriate courses.

7 Now it’s your turn… 7 Let’s look at your scores…. Blue bar = your score Orange bar = District average Yellow bar = NWEA norm (avg) According to NWEA data, student MAP scores typically increase by about 2 points from fall to spring during high school.

8 Now it’s your turn… You can also look at the Quick Reference Guide for help in understanding your scores. Now, write a numerical goal for your next reading and your next math NWEA test.
