4 Warm Up Answer the questions:  What type of verb is needed for DO/IO?  What type of verb is needed for PA/PN?  What questions do you ask to find DO, IO, PA, and PN?

5 Vocabulary Quiz *Name at the top* You have 20 min. to complete the quiz. No talking, please. Raise your hand when you are finished. Start reading/annotating the article by Oliver Stone. ->Annotate for tone and rhetorical devices

6 Individual Practice – Read/Annotate Read and annotate the Oliver Stone article, “Where I Find My Heroes.” Pick out the instances of repetition, parallelism, and analogy. Annotate for tone. What message does the author try to share with the reader via the rhetorical devices? You have 10 min. When you are finished, get with your partner and share your annotations/ideas. Compare and discuss them.

7 Grammar Revisited – How to Break Down a Sentence Find these elements in this order:  Articles (a, an, and the)  Prepositions  Object of a Prep.  Verbs 5.Subject (what the sentence is about) 6.Identify the type of Verb 7.Find PA/PN/DO/IO 8.Adjectives and Adverbs

8 Grammar Practice  Take a note sheet for hard-to-find subjects.  Take a worksheet for hard-to-find subjects and IO/DO/PA/PN  Complete it in your pairs.  If you have questions, ask your partner for an explanation.  Let’s work on the first few sentences together.

9 Closure 3, 2, 1 Write: 3 types of rhetorical devices and what they show. 2 things you learned about PA/PN/DO/IO 1 thing you learned about hard to find subjects Put the room back in order and clean up the trash.
