The Body Paragraph Ms. Marootian

Three Components in Each Paragraph
1. Topic Sentence (first sentence in body- Avenue #1) 2. Textual Support (Embedded Quotes- at least 2 per paragraph) 3. Further Analysis of Quote Repeat Above 2 steps TWO times/paragraph

Topic Sentence Body Paragraph must begin with a solid topic sentence to show the reader what you are going to prove in the paragraph. It is basically your 1st avenue repeated Example: Atticus Finch courageously represents Tom Robinson in order to teach a lesson to his kids.

Textual Support After the topic sentence is where you begin embedding quotes to prove your point Example: When Atticus tells Scout that he is representing Tom Robinson because he couldn’t “hold his head up high in the town” (39) or “tell [her] and Jem not to do something ever again” it shows that his reasons for acting courageous are for their benefit.

Further Analysis After you embed the quote you must further analyze it to be fully effective. Example: Here the reader sees a powerful moment between Atticus and Scout because his true heroism begin to emerge. Representing Tom Robinson is a choice for Atticus not a job requirement. Here, It becomes clear that he is going to be unpopular to some, but that is a risk he is willing to take for his kids to learn tolerance.
