Minerals INB PAGE 15

EQ: How do minerals Form?

MINERALS Naturally occurring, Inorganic Solid, w/ a definite Crystal structure and chemical composition.

Crystal Structure: Atoms Arranged in an orderly, repeated pattern Produces smooth faces and sharp edges

Natural: Not man made Found in the world.

Inorganic Not from plants or animals Was never alive Solid - Not a liquid or a Gas

Chemical composition: Made of specific amounts of the elements that make them.

Mineral Formation: Atoms within a liquid join together to form a solid in an orderly repeated pattern.

From Magma Magma cools slowly inside the Earth The slower it cools the larger the crystals.

From Water Minerals dissolve in water and recrystallize during cooling and evaporation.

LSA: divide page 14 into 3 parts Mineral Crystal Structure. Chemical Composition. Magma. Water. Crystallization
