3 1520 Christian Doppler later discovered that sound waves could be compressed or expanded, thereby.

4 1753 The first horns were monotone instruments. Hampel invented the means of applying movable slides (crooks) of various length that changed the key of the horn.

5 1827 Sir. Charles Wheatstone was the first person to create the microphone.

6 1857 Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinsville invented the phonautograph, the first device that could record sound waves as they passed through the air.

20 1997 DVD videodiscs and players are introduced. An audio version with 6-channel surround sound.

21 1998 MP-3 players for downloaded Internet audio appear.

22 1999 Audio DVD Standard 1.0 agreed upon by manufacturers.
