 Wholesale price: the price that the store pays for an item  Retail price: the price that you (the consumer) pay for the item  Mark-up rate: the % that an item increases in value  Discount rate: the % that an item decreases in value.

 The wholesale price is \$84 and the markup rate is 12.5%. What is the retail price? percent 100 Amount of change Original amount = 12.5 100 x - \$84 \$84 = \$1050= 100(x - 84) \$1050= 100x – 8400 \$9450 = 100x x = \$94.50

 The wholesale price is \$84 and the markup rate is 12.5%. What is the retail price? \$84 *.125 = \$10.50 \$84.00 + 10.50 = \$94.50

 Find the sale price when the original price is \$84 and the discount rate is 12.5%. \$84 *.125 = \$10.50 \$84.00 – 10.50 = \$73.50
