INTRUDUCTION Today's networks have a significant impact on our lives - changing the way we live, work, and play. Computer networks - and in a larger context the Internet - allow people to communicate, collaborate, and interact in ways they never did before. We use the network in a variety of ways, including web applications, IP telephony, video conferencing, interactive gaming, electronic commerce, education, and more.

NETWORKING

WHAT IS NETWORKING? A Network is a connected collection of devices and systems, such as computers and servers, which can communicate with each other…WHO ?  Devices That Make UP The Network  Media That Connect the decices

DEVICES THAT MAKE UP THE NETWORK  END DEVICES Personal Computer Server Others : Laptops, Printers, VoIP Phone,Barcode Scanner

DEVICES THAT MAKE UP THE NETWORK  Intermediary Devices ROUTER SWITCH Others : HUB

MEDIA THAT CONNECTED THE DEVICES  Metallic wires within cables (UTP, STP, COAXIAL)

MEDIA THAT CONNECTED THE DEVICES  Glass or plastic fibers (fiber optic cable) Single Mode & Dual Mode

MEDIA THAT CONNECTED THE DEVICES  Wireless transmission e.g : Wireless Access Point, Bluetooth, Etc

COMMUNICATING OVER NETWORK LAN (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)  An individual network usually spans a single geographical area, providing services and applications to people within a common organizational structure, such as a single business, campus or region. This type of network is called a Local Area Network (LAN). e.g : Wireless Access Point, Bluetooth, Etc

COMMUNICATING OVER NETWORK LAN (LOCAL AREA NETWORK)

COMMUNICATING OVER NETWORK  WAN (WIDE AREA NETWORK ) Individual organizations usually lease connections through a telecommunications service provider network. These networks that connect LANs in geographically separated locations are referred to as Wide Area Networks (WANs)

COMMUNICATING OVER NETWORK  WAN (WIDE AREA NETWORK )

COMMUNICATING OVER NETWORK  INTERNETWORK (INTERNET) A global mesh of interconnected networks (internetworks) meets these human communication needs. Some of these interconnected networks are owned by large public and private organizations, such as government agencies or industrial enterprises, and are reserved for their exclusive use. The most well-known and widely used publicly-accessible internetwork is the Internet.

COMMUNICATING OVER NETWORK  INTRANET The term intranet is often used to refer to a private connection of LANs and WANs that belongs to an organization, and is designed to be accessible only by the organization's members, employees, or others with authorization.
