2 Warm Up 1. Enter quietly 2. Sit in your new assigned seat (if you are unsure of where you sit, stand by the computer stations and wait for assistance) 3. Take out a pen or pencil 4. Place your backpacks and belongings under your desk 5. Prepare your minds to take the Language Arts Benchmark

3 Getting ready to take the test…  Test pick up  Write your proper heading neatly on the BACK of the test booklet  First and last name  ELA 7-____ (insert your period)  Hines/Dalton  Leave your test face down

5 Benchmark Testing Strategies for Day One (multiple choice):  Preview the questions for each passage BEFORE you read each passage. Circle or underline words you feel are important.  Closely read each passage using your thinking notes (*=important/text evidence; ??=unclear)  Answer the questions in your booklet  Go back to the passage to find the answer  Mark through wrong answers  Put a “??” next to problem questions  When you have finished  Go back over your test to make sure you answer all 20 questions  Place your test booklets in the chair located in the front of the classroom.

13 Benchmark Testing Strategies for Day Two (written response):  Read the prompt carefully (and often several times), circle or underline key words  Understand what the prompt is asking  Identify how many parts there are to the question  Stay focused on a consistent central idea while answering the prompt.  Use text evidence.  Types of responses  Constructed Response  Length: paragraph  At least 2 pieces of text evidence  Extended Response  Length: 3-5 paragraphs  At least 3 pieces of text evidence

Integrates relevant and accurate disciplinary content with thorough explanations/calculations/arguments ( citing text evidence ) that demonstrate in-depth understanding Meets Expectations 3 The student demonstrates a basic understanding of all concepts. Accurately presents disciplinary content relevant to the question with sufficient explanations/calculations/arguments ( citing text evidence ) that demonstrate understanding Approaches Expectations 2 The student demonstrates a partial understanding of all concepts.
