These rank well ahead of formal academic results (38%). CBI survey 2012 and 2014

Group 4 research & feedback National curriculum & GCSE reform considerations

National Curriculum

The 2014 National Curriculum is a minimal entitlement… GCSE & A Level reforms Consider: Impact of the increasing demands of GCSE English,Maths, Science. Impact of change from modular to end of course exams. Impact of the changes to GCSE PE - 40% NEA & 60% EA from 60% NEA and 40% EA. Impact of the reduced list of activities to your core curriculum delivery

Group 5 research & feedback Ofsted Common Inspection Framework

How does that compare? Features of old inspection framework (Sept 2014 amendments to 2012 framework) Common Inspection Framework judgements from Sept 2015 1.the achievement of pupils at the school 2.the quality of teaching in the school 3.the behaviour and safety of pupils at the school 4.the quality of leadership in and management of the school When reporting, inspectors must also consider: the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils the extent to which the education provided by the school meets the needs of the range of pupils at the school, in particular SEND Overall effectiveness 1.Effectiveness of leadership & management to include curriculum breadth & suitability Fundamental British values & SMSC Staff morale & CPD 3.Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment 4.Personal Development, behaviour & welfare 5.Outcomes for pupils Using published assessment & exam data as a starting point Also consider info & context of school Also consider wider development inc emotional health

Ofsted Inspection Framework... How can PE contribute to each of these? 1. Effectiveness of leadership & management 2. Quality of T&L and Assessment 3. Personal Development, behaviour & welfare 4. Outcomes for pupils

Judgements (evaluation criteria for each remit was published June 2015): 1.Effectiveness of leadership & management – to include the breadth & suitability of the curriculum, staff morale & how leaders support staff 2.Quality of teaching, learning & assessment 3.Personal development, behaviour & welfare – lots of opportunity in here for PE departments to feature around supporting pupils to gain ‘knowledge of how to keep themselves healthy, including through exercising and healthy eating’ and the culture/ ethos of this to support mental & physical wellbeing 4.Outcomes for children & learners – using published assessment & exam data as a starting point but also considering qualitative information, contextual and value added data & different starting points for learners (eg SEND) 5.Separate grades for early years & sixth form provision use subject specialists where possible but no grade on individual subjects or lessons Inspectors will continue to gather learners’, parents’ and staffs views during inspections Key message is that PE will feature in judgements under section 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5! Ofsted – Better Inspections for all framework (sept. 2015)
