2 Fast Food or Fat Food? + = ??? Fast food restaurants are taking a lot of heat for offering foods that may be high in calories and fat. Do fast food restaurants offer foods with too much fat and calories? Find out the facts and report back to the Surgeon General with your recommendations. Back

3 Task Fast Food or Fat Food? You and your team (3 people) have been selected by the Surgeon General of the United States to identify whether or not fast foods have high fat and high caloric content. Your team will also determine how much exercise is needed to burn a fast food diet. Once all your information is collected, your team will analyze it and write a one page report to the surgeon general with your recommendations concerning fast foods. During the process you will design a blog to calculate the calories for each meal over the course of seven days. You will create a meal sheet to record your findings. You may utilize websites found on my blog to help get you started. Step 4: Answer this question on the bottom of your sheet: Did you eat more calories and fat than you need or do you need more calories and fat that you ate? Step 5: It is now time to see how much exercise it takes to burn those fast food calories. Everyone burns calories just keeping their bodies functioning (heart beating, digestion, brain activity, breathing, etc.). This is called resting metabolic rate. Click on this link to find out what your RMR is: Step 5: It is now time to see how much exercise it takes to burn those fast food calories. 8 Process cont. Step 6: Just by being alive you burn quite a few calories but you still have a few left from your fast food diet. Subtract your RMR (resting metabolic rate) from the total calories eaten to determine how many calories you need to burn by exercising. Use the link below to pick activities and play enough to burn the remaining calories from your day of restaurant eating. Using the meal chart, list the activity, the duration (amount of time you played the activity) and the calories burned. You can stop playing when you have burned all your extra fast food calories! 9 Process cont. Step 7: Finally, get with your group members and compare your meals. In order to fairly evaluate the fast food industry, you and your group will now make one more day of fast food eating. Divide the meals between the group (one person take breakfast, one person take lunch, and one person take dinner). Remember that you need to keep your calories under 2,200 and fat under 75 grams. Analyze your individual fast food meals and the group fast food meal. Discuss your ideas and then write a one page report to the Surgeon General of the United States making your group’s recommendations concerning fast foods, calories, and fat.
