BUT WHAT OTHER WAYS DO WE USE? THE BASIC WAYS WE USE ICT TO TEACH

3 ICT Commonly Used in School  Microsoft Applications  -Word- for typing down documents  -Powerpoint- For making powerpoint presentation  -Excel- to organize graphs and data  Gmail- all students are given a BSM gmail account where you’ll be able to have access to school announcements and submitting hw in all subjects  -Google Drive- able to collaborate with other students on documents and presentation  Haiku Learning- a learning managements system where you’ll be retrieve information about that specific subject in one website  BBC Bitesize- Online resource for summarized information topics learned in class. Computer-aided learning also known as CAL is a software which helps students learn specific skills. Digital drop boxes where students can store or submit work Students can find out their grades online and don’t need to wait until the next class. Students and teachers can look at grade profiles to see how the student is progressing through their learning Online surveys to help students and teachers with their research. How Many Times Do You Submit Your Homework Online? learning resources are easily accessible whether at home or in school where there’s internet connection. this makes it easier for sick students to catch up with their work. students can study anytime at their own pace learning resources can be well organised so that they can easily find their worksheets or homework that teachers set them. VLE STANDS FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

5 Two Computer Assisted Learning (CAL): The program is usually designed to develop a very narrow range of skills and knowledge. CAL programs are put into 3 categories: 1. Drill and practice 2. Tutorials 3. Simulations Memorization Self Instructional Lets the student be put in a life- like situation

6 Advantages: automatic reporting (eg attendance at school can be tracked and inform parents of absence of child using email, phone or letter). Communication with parents can be personalized (eg mail merge). Disadvantages: Student records have to be accurate so student’s progress can be tracked and reports sent to their guardians.
