1 College of Charleston Presented by the 2014-2015 Faculty Compensation Committee to the Faculty Senate April 7, 2015 Faculty Salary Resolution Update

2 Resolution College of Charleston faculty salaries will meet or exceed the median salaries of the CUPA-HR salary peers- institutionally and at each rank and discipline. The College will make every effort to achieve this goal by September, 2018. The Compensation Committee, in cooperation with all relevant administrative offices, will assess the progress being made in its annual report each spring to the Senate. ~ Passed by Faculty Senate, March, 2013 (Sponsored by the Faculty Compensation Committee, co-chaired by Bill Olejniczak, Associate Professor, History, and Devon Hanahan, Senior Instructor, Hispanic Studies)

8 Progress Attributed To: Competitive salaries for newly hired, especially at the assistant professor rank. Increased promotion increments, benefiting the associate professor and professor ranks. Across the board salary increases in 2013-2014 and again in 2014-2015. Merit/market exercise in 2013-2014.

9 Recommendations for Future Actions Gain a stronger grasp of the drivers of average salary increases at the associate professor and professor ranks. Continue focus on increasing faculty salaries, specifically for those faculty in the ranks of associate professor and professor to further close the gaps. Monies be allocated to meet the resolution prior to the goal date, to account for variability in reporting of the peer salary data.
