2 NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNS STARTING IN 2014-PRESENT Starting July 1 2014 new requirements will be implemented for documentation of patient totals: -Sick adult hospital visits: 750 over 3 years -Sick child hospital visits: 250 over 3 years -Sick adult ER visits: 75 over 3 years -sick child ER visits: 75 over 3 years

3 PROCEDURES There is no acgme requirement for procedures There is a program in place at our residency for “certification on procedures” -once a resident has logged 5 of the following procedures he or she can sit for an exam and be “certified” to perform this procedure -central line -LP -endotracheal intubation -paracentesis -thoracentesis -arthocentesis -there are others but these are the most common

4 HOW TO LOG PATIENT/PROCEDURE The program provides you with access to www.Myevaluations.com www.Myevaluations.com This is where for acgme requirements you should log each patient and procedure towards the totals listed below -Sick adult hospital visits: 750 over 3 years -Sick child hospital visits: 250 over 3 years -Sick adult ER visits: 75 over 3 years -sick child ER visits: 75 over 3 years

7 OPTIONAL PATIENT LOGS The need to keep track of your patients goes further than just acgme requirements This information can be very important for future employers -earlier this year I spoke to physician recruiters as well as a representative of a hospitalist group and ER group -I was informed that these groups like to see patient totals as a means of assessing a candidates experience level when hiring I would recommend that you develop some method (pen and paper, stickers, excel spread sheet ect…) to keep track of these numbers separately. LOG EVERYTHING! Just as in a patient’s chart… if its not written down… you didn’t do it.
