6 Task: Create a Playlist Think of topic you will be teaching in the near future Click the PLAYLIST option

7 Task: Create a Playlist 1. Click the Create New… option 2. Type the name of your unit or topic, then click the add button

8 Task: Create a Playlist 1. To view your playlist, click on the Select Playlist… drop down menu. Now select the playlist you just created. 1. 10 Searching for Video Begin a new search by clicking on the search option. You can always find this navigation bar on the top of the unitedstreaming screen.

11 Four Search Options Keyword Search Type in any word and the videos that include that word in the title or description will be listed. unitedstreaming will list the videos in order of relevance, so the videos most likely to match your topic will appear first. 20 Playing Those Videos… You’ve created your playlists… … you’ve added videos to the playlist… … but HOW do you SHOW them?????

Once the video has been downloaded to the school server, it can be used at any time of the day or night. 23 If you see the black dot, the video has not been downloaded and can’t be played during the restricted hours. This column tells you whether the video has been downloaded to your school server. Enough… I Want to Show a Video Let’s translate that to a practical process! The first step to showing video is to access the unitedstreaming site at http://www.unitedstreaming.com and log into your account. Look at the video list below. 24 Show (Stream) the Video The S button stands for STREAM, but you might want to think of it as the SHOW button. When you click on it, the video shows in the player on the left side of the screen.

25 Download Video to Your Computer You can also download video to a hard drive on your computer. There are several reasons why you might want to do this: You can play your server even if the Internet connection or the building network is down. Select Save Target As … from the pop-up menu. When the Save As window opens, be sure to select the D: drive of your computer. DO NOT SAVE videos to your My Documents folder. 26 Playing a Downloaded Video Open the D: drive of your computer and locate the folder you created for your videos. When you locate the video, double-click on it to open it. It will play in Windows Media Player.

29 Learning Resources The unitedstreaming site has many useful tools in the Learning Resources section. The calendar highlights either current events or events from history and links them to appropriate video content. The Professional Development section provides many ASCD (Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development) videos to help you learn new instructional techniques.

30 Learning Resources GREAT teaching resources for Contemporary Issues are offered in a timely manner. Support for using unitedstreaming with a variety of hardware is readily available. You can search for a specific topic to find help faster!

31 Learning Resources Search by keyword or search by category, such as “weather” or “food and nutrition.” The Image Library offers you thousands of images with a search engine to easily locate the picture you are looking for. 32 Learning Resources The QUIZ CENTER allows you to create a list of videos that students can access from outside the school. With Quiz Center, students do not need a password to view the videos. This is the view students will see when they access your quiz. You can also add questions for students to answer in the quiz section, but it isn’t required. The Quiz Center will automatically score all questions and give you a complete report for your classes.
