2 Environmental Contaminants -Found in air, water & soil -Definition: any natural or man-made compound that is harmful to human development & health. -Environmental Contaminates that affect the central nervous system during prenatal development are called neurotoxicants.

3 Neurotoxicants / Cause neurological dysfunction to child during pre& post natal development. / Timing & Dosage matter, but hard to measure. / Cause neurological dysfunction to child during pre& post natal development. / Timing & Dosage matter, but hard to measure.

5 MERCURY Exposure through: fish, vaccines & dental amalgams. -Methylmercury(found in fish)-affects brain during pre-natal development -Thimerosal (found in vaccines) -Thought to be linked with Autism. -Dental Amalgams- Mercury enters blood stream through dental fillings. 7 PCB/DIOXINS / PCB= Polychlorinated Biphenyls / chemical found in many industrial applications Dioxins-by product of industrial applications. Non-biodegradable, so in environment indefinitely. More common in males. / PCB= Polychlorinated Biphenyls / chemical found in many industrial applications Dioxins-by product of industrial applications.
