Methadology Survey – Posted on Facebook Semi Structured Interviews – People who had lost friends on Facebook
6
Findings People want to maintain a connection. People don´t remove deceased friends. There is no difference between the dead and alive on Facebook.
7
What does this mean? Demands of the Facebook generation – Connection to everyone on Facebook – dead or alive Future of Facebook – Deceased people stand still in time and space – Most respondants had 1-2 Facebook friends who were deceased. What about in 20 years? – Facebook will have to take action to distinguish the living from the dead. How?
8
Discussion Main take away point – The future of Facebook in regards to the living vs. the deceased. Most interesting thing we learned – People sometimes communicate with deceased peoples wall, without knowing that they are dead Limitations – Delecate subject, difficult to approach – People living abroad may have different needs
9
Conclusion People have a need to maintain a Facebook connection to deceased friends The number of deceased on Facebook will increase - fast As long as there is no distinction between the living and the dead – this will cause problems Further research is needed to find the optimal solution to this
