4. The chemicals used in scented products can make some people sick, especially those with fragrance sensitivities, asthma, allergies and other medical conditions. Please do not wear perfume, cologne, aftershave and other fragrances. Use unscented personal care products.

5. Why is a Scent-Free Policy important? Approximately one-third of North Americans report having some type of reaction to fragrances – ranging from watery eyes to extreme health threats such as anaphylactic attacks. Canadians spend upwards of 90% of their time indoors. Air quality indoors can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Fragrances are the most obvious indoor air pollutant, second only to tobacco smoke. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that fragrances account for 30% of all allergic reactions, and 70% of asthmatics develop respiratory difficulties when exposed to perfumes. 6. Other symptoms arising from exposure to fragrances may include headaches, dizziness, rashes, skin irritation and discoloration, inability to concentrate, weakness, anxiety, insomnia, nausea as well as coughing and vomiting.
