April 12, 2005 Slide 8 New Framework Based on OAIS Responsibilities  Repository negotiates for and accepts appropriate information from producers (e.g., depositors, creators) :  Repository obtains sufficient control of the digital object and all appropriate metadata provided to the level needed to ensure long- term preservation. [This includes physical and legal control issues.]  Repository must determine - either by itself or in conjunction with other parties - which communities should become the Designated Community, and therefore should be able to understand/utilize the information provided  Repository must ensure that the information to be preserved is independently understandable to [able to be utilized by] the designated community.
