DUE: TUESDAY DECEMBER 15 For your midterm project, you will create trading cards for five characters in Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible. This assignment requires you to be familiar with the ways in which Miller gives audiences insight into his characters. This assignment also requires you to go beyond the text and make sophisticated inferences about the people of Miller’s Salem. Directions: Choose five characters from The Crucible for whom you will create trading cards. Choose 3 major characters and two minor characters. Complete the print-out insert for each character (in complete sentences).. Major Characters Reverend Samuel Parris Abigail Williams John Proctor Thomas Putnam Ann Putnam Reverend John Hale Rebecca Nurse Mary Warren Minor Characters Tituba Girls of Salem Giles Corey Francis Nurse Mercy Lewis Judge Hathorne Deputy Governor Danforth Sarah Good Requirements: Each trading card must be: fully colored and illustrated fully completed neatly handwritten (in pen) or typed turned in in hard copy similar in design and layout to typical trading cards

Picture or Illustration Attacks, defensive moves, abilities What was this person’s job or work? Type (think elements: ice, fire, water, air, rock, etc. What symbolizes this person?) and rarity (how much power does this person have? how important are they?)

3 Name: Character’s main conflict or problem (2-3 sentences)? MAJOR CHARACTERS: In this section, please include three character traits with direct quotations from the text (including line numbers) and explanations of those quotations (how does this piece of text demonstrate the character trait?) MINOR CHARACTERS: Same, include one trait Character’s motivation– what makes them tick (2-3 sentences)? What outcome or end result was the person trying to achieve (2-3 sentences)? Did the person succeed? What happened as a result? (2-3 sentences) Who are your character’s rivals? What “types” or attacks are they effective or ineffective against (2-3 sentences)? Attacks, defensive moves, abilities What was this person’s job or work? Type (think elements: ice, fire, water, air, rock, etc. What symbolizes this person?) and rarity (how much power does this person have? how important are they?)
