Primary 3 (CTR-B): Lesson 27

Remember to reverently listen to others as they share. Let’s take 1 minute each to share something fun that you did last week. You can ask questions when they are done.

I need two volunteers to come to the front of the class. Face each other, and hold hands above your heads to form an area big enough for the other children to walk under.

These children represent a very important gate. This gate is the entrance to the strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life.

…For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost. 2 Nephi 31:17 tells us:

Walk through the gate! One of the first steps to eternal life is going through the gate – being baptized.

When We Are 8, We Are Accountable Heavenly Father is very wise.Heavenly Father is very wise. He knows we must learnHe knows we must learn what is right and wrong. what is right and wrong. When we have grownWhen we have grown enough and learned enough enough and learned enough about right and wrong, we about right and wrong, we become accountable for become accountable for what we do. what we do.

When We Are 8, We Are Accountable Being accountable meansBeing accountable means that we: that we: - take responsibility for - take responsibility for what we do wrong what we do wrong - are blessed for what we - are blessed for what we do right do right We are old enough to be responsible for our actions and can follow the strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life by being baptized. We are old enough to be responsible for our actions and can follow the strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life by being baptized.

1.At what age do we begin to be accountable to Heavenly Father for what we do? 3. Why is baptism important? 2.What important event happens when we are eight? When we are baptized and confirmed, we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to help us keep the commandments of God.

Which article of Faith tells us the we are responsible for our own sins? We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, & not for Adam's transgression. Let’s practice it!

We Are Responsible to Choose the Right What do the letters CTR stand for? Choose the Right Learning to choose right from wrong is a big step in growing up.

We Are Responsible to Choose the Right Our Heavenly Father will not force us to do right. He gives us freedom to choose for ourselves between right and wrong and to be responsible for keeping the promises we make. He knows that only by having freedom to choose for ourselves can we grow and learn.

I am going to give each of you something that I brought to class. Each item is in a paper sack. You will be accountable for the item in the bag. You will be responsible to take care of that item until the end of class. Let’s see what everyone got…

How do you take care of the item in your bag? Will the person with the candy, please stand up… I want you to share the candy with the entire class after the closing prayer. Your responsibility is to take care of the candy until it is time to share it.

Could this person choose to eat it rather that share it? The person could choose to disobey the teacher and eat it rather than save it to share. This person could choose what to do but would be held accountable for that choice.

This is similar to life. Heavenly Father’s plan gives us choices. We may choose: - right or wrong. - wisely or foolishly. Yet, we are responsible for our choices and the results.

The Anit-Nephi-Lehi’s Chose the Right A group of people in the Book of Mormon had a very difficult choice to make and they decided to choose the right.

Ammon was a missionary who explained the teachings of Jesus Christ to King Lamoni, a Lamanite king.

Using the scriptures, Ammon taught King Lamoni about the Creation, Adam, and Jesus Christ. King Lamoni believed Ammon and prayed to be forgiven of his sins. King Lamoni believed these teachings and became converted to the gospel.

King Lamoni taught his people about God & Jesus Christ. Those who believed repented of their sins & were baptized.

Thousands of Lamanites repented and joined the Church. The Lamanites who joined the Church called themselves Anti-Nephi-Lehies. They were good, hardworking people.

The Lamanites who did not repent were angry with the people of Ammon and prepared to fight them.

They had repented of killing. The people of Ammon knew that the wicked Lamanites would come to kill them but decided not to fight back.

They buried their weapons deep in the ground & promised God they would never kill again. When the wicked Lamanites came & began killing them, they bowed to the ground & prayed.

Seeing that the people of Ammon would not fight back, many of the wicked Lamanites stopped killing them. The Lamanites were sorry that they had killed. They threw down their weapons & they would not fight anymore.

More Lamanites came to kill them. They still would not fight back; many were killed. Ammon prayed for help. The Lord told him to take his people & leave the land.

The Nephites in Zarahemla gave Ammon and his people the land of Jershon and protected them. They became friends.

1.What choice did the Anti-Nephi- Lehies make? They chose not to kill anymore and to bury their swords in the ground.

2. Why did they do it? They made a covenant or promise with God never to kill again.

The Anti-Nephi-Lehies were faithful to their promise even when other people were trying to kill them. 3. What can you learn from them about choosing the right?

At the Age of 8, We Become Accountable to Heavenly Father Accountable means that we are responsible for what we do. When you turn 8, you are accountable. If you are not 8, you can practice being accountable by: - helping parents - keeping good promises to others

Who is accountable for teaching you to pray? Who is accountable for saying your prayers? Who is accountable for teaching you the lessons in Primary? Who is accountable for learning what your Primary teacher teaches?

Who is accountable for the way you act in Primary? Who is accountable for doing what your mom & dad want you do to? Who is accountable for doing what Heavenly Father & Jesus want you do to? Who is accountable for keeping your baptismal covenants?

I bear my testimony that Heavenly Father is very wise - He knows we must learn what is right & wrong. When we are old enough to be responsible for our actions, we can follow the strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life by being baptized and following Jesus' example.
