2  Cars as status symbols  Many couldn’t afford to drive but still owned the car.  Highways and roads made it possible for people to drive to find work or adventure

4  Revolutionary appliances not only were continued to be made, but became more and more popular items to buy when possible.  Refrigerator sales continued to climb throughout the Depression.  Washing machines and electric irons also were big.

6  Movies with sound came along.  Mostly musicals, but at least one epic film that people around the world still talk about. What was it?

8  10 million + radio sets were owned by 1929  By 1939… 30 million+.  Daytime radio= Soap Operas, panel discussions, and quiz shows.  Afternoon= Kids shows, including The Lone Ranger and Superman.  Night= News, Comedy shows, and Dramatic Presentations

10  Literature moved from individual difficulties to mass struggles.  Grapes of Wrath (1939)  Photographers also made their mark through unfiltered looks at those deeply effected by the Depression.
