2.  Cars as status symbols  Many couldn’t afford to drive but still owned the car.  Highways and roads made it possible for people to drive to find work or adventure

4.  Revolutionary appliances not only were continued to be made, but became more and more popular items to buy when possible.  Refrigerator sales continued to climb throughout the Depression.  Washing machines and electric irons also were big.

10.  Literature moved from individual difficulties to mass struggles.  Grapes of Wrath (1939)  Photographers also made their mark through unfiltered looks at those deeply effected by the Depression.
