3 Element Line is a mark on a surface, longer than it is wide, and in a particular direction.

4 Element Shape is 2-dimensional with no form or thickness. Shapes are flat and can be grouped into two categories, geometric and organic.

5 Element Color How the human eye perceives light reflected off an object. It is divided into color schemes.

6 Element Texture Is the tactile surface quality of a surface. Can be implied (drawing or photo), or actually on a surface.

7 Element Form is a 3-dimensional object having volume and thickness.

8 Element Value is the degree of light and dark in a design. It is the contrast between black and white and all the tones in between.

9 Element Space refers to illusion of depth & distance.

10 Principles Balance is a feeling of visual weight. It can be symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial.

11 Principles Unity A feeling of harmony within an artwork, as if things fit together in a composition because of similar elements, such as colors, shapes, and textures.

12 Principles Contrast The use of opposite elements to create interest, such a bright and dark color together to make something stand out.

13 Principles Emphasis The most important area (focal point) that attracts attention in a composition. Contrast often creates emphasis.

14 Principles Rhythm Repetition of similar elements.

15 15 Principles Movement The way your eye is guided through the composition. Rhythm often creates movement.

16 Principles Pattern The repetition of identical elements in a sequential manner.

17 17 Proportion The comparative relationship of one part to another with respect to size or amounts. Principles
