3 1 The Bilateral Chambers of Commerce Italian System

4 Italian System of Chambers of Commerce (Camere di Commercio) is locally-based Each Camber of Commerce has statutory and financial independence Chambers of Commerce are jointly represented by Unioncamere, a public body founded in 1901 Unioncamere provides support and represents the interests of the Chambers of Commerce in co-ordinating and organizing activities The Italian System of Bilateral Chambers of Commerce

5 Italy is particular, in this field, in that there exist Italian-Foreign Chambers of Commerce called Bilateral Chambers of Commerce Bilateral Chambers of Commerce and Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Italy operate both under the umbrella of Unioncamere, and have been registered since 1998 in an appropriate Section of the Registry of the Chambers of Commerce The purpose is to improve economic relations between each Country and Italy, throught partnership agreements and joint projects, and to ensure permanent contacts with the Italian Chambers of Commerce located in Italy and abroad The Italian System of Bilateral Chambers of Commerce

6 Bilateral Chambers of Commerce operate in a wide range of activities to support business:  Consulting and support  Information services  Training services  Promotion services The Italian System of Bilateral Chambers of Commerce Corporate and market informations Personalized support Arbitration advice Research of qualified personnel Ah hoc publications Databases Newsletters Workshops Conferences Round tables Trade and industrial partnership campaigns Missions for buyers and sellers

7 The Italian-Argentine Chamber of Commerce (CACIA) was founded in 2003, and recognized by Minister of Commerce Decree in 2006 Currently, it counts 131 members Its registred office is located in Faenza (RA), Italy, and its headquartes are in Faenza and in Rome CACIA has a large number of collaboration agreements with Italian and Argentine institutions and public body, as in Italy as in Argentina The Italian-Argentine Chamber of Commerce Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Italy University of Bologna Unioncamere Tuscany... Italian Embassy in Argentina Chamber of Exporters of the Argentine Republic Ministry of Foreign Relations, International Trade, and Religion Exportar Fundation...

8 Main activities:  Information  Promotion  Assistance The Italian-Argentine Chamber of Commerce Newsletter “Cacia-Notize” Brochures Guide for access to Argentine market and to protection of intellectual property Market studies Commercial information on companies Services Missions and assistance to business missions Partecipation in trade fair events Business meetings agendas Search for trading partners Trading agreements Technology transfers Establishment of joint ventures or companies Promotion of patents and registered trademarks Protection of IP Amicable settlement of disputes Legal assistance Financial consulting

9 1 Initiatives of the Italian-Argentine Chamber of Commerce

10 Among the initiatives that the Italian-Argentine Chamber of Commerce is currently developing, two, in particular, are IP- related:  Collaboration with WIPO for the customization for Argentina of the WIPO Marks Guide  Promotion of IP knowledge and appreciation of the “Made in Italy” in Argentina Initiatives of the Italian-Argentine Chambre of Commerce

11 The final purpose is to provide a customized Guide for commercial trade marks for Small and Medium Businesses operating in the Argentine market The Guide will contain successful cases regarding Argentine and Italian companies, with reference to the Argentine market Customization of the WIPO Marks Guide

12 In particular:  Large Companies and Small Businesses that have enhanced their own brand, improving their competitiveness in the Argentine and international markets  Companies that put into practice strategies against counterfeiting  Companies that have entered into license and/or franchising agreements for the use of the mark in Argentina or at an international level Customization of the manual

14 One of the most important factors for success for a Company looking to a market is its IP assets The action of Bilateral Chambers of Commerce, because of their characteristics, can offer a great opportunity to drive companies in the identification, protection and appreciation of their portfolio of IP assets Promotion of IP knowledge Improving knowledge in a... Knowledge Driven Society The aim is:

15 This program is being developed in three sub-projects:  Realization of a bi-lingual Information Guide  Creation of a bi-lingual Web Site (Spanish and Italian) for the appreciation of Intellectual Property  Mission in Argentina 2008: events and workshops for the promotion of the “Made in Italy” Promotion of IP knowledge

16 The Guide (for Italian and Argentine entrepreneurs) will contain, after a preliminary study:  Italian and Argentine IP systems  Strategies to appreciation of IP assets  Strategies to create added-value with IP  Best practices and case studies in the field of the Made in Italy Promotion of IP knowledge

17 The Web Site will contain information about CACIA’s promotional programs and appreciation of IP There will be also news, agenda of events, documents, informations about regional, nationals and international calls, and links Promotion of IP knowledge Image: FlickrFlickr

18 The Mission will take place in two ways:  Promotional event for the “Made in Italy” (Buenos Aires)  Workshop for IP (Mendoza): Topics:  Strategies to protect IP Assets  Analysis of Best Practices and succesful cases  Analysis of obstacles to enter the market  Expansions strategies in European Market, related to marks, patents, industrial designs, copyright  Evaluation of IP assets and company value Promotion of IP knowledge
