3 Accessing OPAC To create desktop shortcut, drag the URL icon to desktop. Rename “OPAC”

4 Using Quick Search Select the Quick Search tab to do basic searches of your library catalog. Enter your search term in the search field.

5 Using Quick Search Select the sorting method for your results in the sort by dropdown list. Choices include Author, Title, Subject, Relevance, Old to New and New to Old. Click the appropriate button for your search. Restrict your search by Subject, Title, or Author, or broaden it to search all three fields by choosing Everything.

6 Using Quick Search Search Results Use the Backup icon to return to the previous screen. Click the Sort button to sort your results. Click the Keep box to add an item to your Keepers list. Use the Logout icon to log out of your search session. Click the See More button for more bibliographic information about the item. Your search results will appear in a list.

7 Using Quick Search Search Results Select the More by this Author button to find more items by the same author. Select the More like this button to find more items on the same topic. Selecting See More opens a new screen with more information for that title.

8 Using Quick Search Search Results Click on the links in the Personal Author, Title, Series and Subject term fields for further related references. Select the Hold icon to place a hold on an item.

9 Patron enters their Patron ID on the next screen. No PIN is necessary. Click the Place Hold button. Using Quick Search Placing a HOLD

10 Patron will receive confirmation of the HOLD on the next screen. Click the OK button. Patron is returned to the previous screen.

12 A pop-up notice will appear when the copy is checked in. If your Administration tab has been set up to print holds, a hold notice will be printed when you click the Make Available button.

14 Using Quick Search Advanced Tools To search for authors by their state (052 MARC tag), enter the state followed by {052}. Then click the Everything button.

15 Using Quick Search Advanced Tools OPAC found 235 titles by California authors in the Odyssey Library.

16 Using Quick Search Advanced Tools Clicking the See More button, shows the MARC field that sets up this record as having a California author.

17 Using Power Search Select the index you wish to search by from the dropdown list. Options include everything, subject, title, author and series. Select the Power Search tab to combine search terms and to search by call number.

18 Using Power Search Select the Boolean operator from the dropdown list to combine search terms. Options include AND, OR, XOR and NOT. You can limit your search by type, location and material type.

19 Using Power Search To sort your results, choose the order in the sort by dropdown list. Options include Author, Subject, Title, Relevance, Old to New or New to Old. To search by call number, click on the Call Number Search button.

23 Using Visual Search Select the Visual Search tab to access present searches linked to visual icons. Elementary Schools have different search icons than Middle and High School. Select a button by clicking on the image or text for the subject area you wish to search. A screen with the next level of subject areas will open. Select a button from this level of subject areas. Depending on your search, either your search results or another level of buttons will appear.

24 Using Visual Search Clicking on the Holidays icon/button, brings up another search screen with more detailed choices.

25 Using Visual Search Clicking on the Thanksgiving icon/button results in a list of books with Thanksgiving as its subject.

26 Searching Reading Programs Select the Reading Programs tab to search for items associated with a reading program. In the Reading Program box, select either Accelerated Reader or Reading Counts from the dropdown list. Select the Reading Level from the dropdown list. Options include ANY or a specific level (each level searches a range of one increment higher or two increments lower than the specified number).

27 Searching Reading Programs In the search term box, enter your search. Click the sort by box to sort your results.

28 Searching Reading Programs Click on the Show Matching Books button.

29 Using Favorites Select the Favorites tab to view a list of frequently searched authors, titles, and subjects (Student Favorites); Award Winners and Best Sellers.

30 Using Favorites Click on the links in Award Winners and Best Sellers to see related titles.

31 Using Favorites Select More under Student Favorites to see a list of Hottest titles, Hottest authors, and Hottest subjects.

32 Create a Bibliography Using KEEPERS 1.Perform a search in OPAC. 2.Review your search results. 3.Click the Keep button beside the items you wish to add to your bibliography. 4.Click on the Keepers icon to see the list of items in your bibliography. The Keepers function in OPAC allows you to create a bibliography from your search results and print or email it.

33 Create a Bibliography Using KEEPERS To remove one or more items, click in the box to the left of the item, then click the Remove Selected button. To remove all items, click the Remove All button. To add more items, click on the Back Up icon and select more items from your search results.

34 Create a Bibliography Using KEEPERS 5.In the Sort By field, select the order that you want the items in your bibliography. Options include Author, Title, or Call Number, 6.The Library field defaults to HERE, limiting your bibliography to copies in your library only.

35 Create a Bibliography Using KEEPERS 7.In the View of records field, select the type of record you want included in your bibliography: All includes the entire record Full includes detailed title and copy information Brief includes Call Number, Title and Author fields, plus copy information

36 Create a Bibliography Using KEEPERS Bibliography lists the items in standard bibliographic format

37 My Stuff Tab The My Stuff tab allows the patron to see their checkouts, bills and holds. 1.Click on Show My Record.

38 My Stuff Tab 2.Student enters their student ID in user ID field. Leave the PIN field blank. 3.Click on Show My Checkouts, Bills, and Holds button.

39 My Stuff Tab Student can view their circulation activity, bills, and they can cancel any holds they have.
