2. Ernest Miller Hemingway July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961 He was an American author and journalist. His distinctive writing style, characterized by economy and understatement, strongly influenced 20th-century fiction, as did his life of adventure and his public image. He lived an adventurous life – soldier, journalist, foreign correspondent, writer, outdoorsman, athlete. Hemingway produced most of his work between the mid- 1920s and the mid-1950s, winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He published seven novels, six short story collections, and two non-fiction works during his lifetime; a further three novels, four collections of short stories, and three non-fiction works were published posthumously. Many of his works are considered classics of American literature.

8. "A Day's Wait" is a short story which appears in The Snows of Kilimanjaro, first printed in 1933. Like much of Hemingway’s writing, “A Day’s Wait, is based on actual events in Hemingway’s life. While Hemingway was living in France, his son came down with a high fever and reacted similarly to the boy in the story you will read.
