3 Design progress  Reached a peak  Intensive dialogue with key approving bodies  Continues to be coordinated with other key projects  Utility design challenging – ground probing surveys, etc but scope can be reduced in places  Design of 22 new trams is progressing and build underway  Software and equipment design progressing to support introduction of smart ticketing

4 Construction progress  Site clearance and demolition activity  Work to move utilities expected to continue until middle of year  Earth works – good progress made but wet weather has delayed some works which will resume in March  Construction of Park & Ride sites continues – first section of track laid in November  Significant progress on key structures – Nottingham Station, Wilford Toll Bridge and Lenton Lane  Line One –Depot being expanded and stabling increased

6 Local employment and training  Around 550 people are currently employed  Over 50% live in Greater Nottingham  Vacancies advertised through Nottingham City Council’s Employer Hub  Pre-training given to unemployed people to help with recruitment on NET and other local construction projects, including station development  Bespoke recruitment events held  Significant engagement with local companies

7 Land  1200 plots of land will have been taken by end of January - 98% of those required  Land taken using temporary powers – permanent acquisition over next 12 months  Negotiations on land values continues - 90 claims received so far  Ongoing and intense dialogue with land and property owners - proactive in encouraging those affected to claim compensation  Key stakeholders - QMC and University of Nottingham temporary loss of parking. Replacement off-site parking provided

10 Construction progress - Key achievements to date  Vast and complex preparatory works – route clearance, demolition and utility diversions  Structural works commenced – e.g. Station Bridge  Wilkinson Street building extension and new tracks QMC viaduct foundation worksSite clearance at Ruddington Lane

11 Key achievements to date  Final sections of Highways design being prepared for sign-off  Major sections of Nottingham Station Bridge assembled and raised for installation  Toton P&R - first piece of track laid using Appitrack  Tram design validated and assembly started in Barcelona  Site offices established First piece of track laid at Toton Lane Park & Ride Bridge trusses for Station Bridge

12 Sustainability / employment  £51 million local contracts  193 people from within City employed on project  Significant focus on Safety  AFR of 0.14 (UK upper quartile)

13 Sustainability / environment  Project registered with CEEQUAL  Recycling – 95.6% of waste  40,000m³ of soil from former Railway Embankment in Wilford and Compton Acres being reused - equivalent of 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools  History recorded – eg Clifton Bronze Age burial mound

14 2013 - From preparatory works to construction  All design approvals issued by beginning of March  Complete utility diversions  Bulk of the construction works carried out in 2013  Larger but more stable sections of traffic management in place Lenton Bridge

15 Highlights for 2013  Bridge over Station completed in two major stages - February and April  Other structures completed; Wilford Toll Bridge - July; QMC Viaduct - December  Depot building and new stabling commissioning from September  Track installation along the route and OLE Poles  Details for each construction area to follow

16 Highlights for 2013  Remedial works on Line One  Bulwell - First quarter 2013  Noel Street - Easter 2013  On-Street ticketing installed and operational from autumn 2013  First tram delivered to Nottingham - August 2013

17 The key challenges ahead  Design Approval  Large volume of work. Need close co-operation  Utilities – much to be completed  Traffic Management  Balance between minimising disruption and progressing works  Intelligent approach to Traffic Management needed
