FIRST OF ALL…THANK YOU

EXAMINABLE CONTENT Yes we can examine you on everything we’ve covered this semester…

WHAT WE’LL ACTUALLY EXAMINE YOU ON… But in fairness…we won’t

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION

OUTCOME 1 From data to information

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION  Information Purposes  To Inform, Persuade, Entertain, Educate  Types of Data  What is a data type?  Four commonly used data types are??

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION  Ways to identify relevant data  Relevant data needs to meet the required purpose  To assess the usability of the data & determine the characteristics of the targeted audience,  Usable data has to be:  suitable, reliable, accurate, timely, & free from bias.  Audience characteristics  Gender, Special needs, culture, age, education level, status & location.

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION  Types & purposes of graphic representations  What are the 7 types of graphic representations & when each would be best used?  I recommend focusing on bar/column charts, line & pie charts.  Spreadsheet software  What are the five applications of spreadsheet software?  What are the different elements of spreadsheet software?  Make sure you know how to build basic formulas from given functions.  SUM, AVERAGE, MINIMUM, MAXIMUM  What is the purpose of AutoFill?

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION  Design elements  What are design elements?  List & describe (briefly) each of the design principles.  Design Tools  Why do we use design tools?  You will be required to construct & annotate AT LEAST ONE Layout Diagram for the exam.

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION  Data Validation  What are the different types of validation?  How is efficiency measured?  How is effectiveness measured?  Why is validation important when using spread sheet software?

OUTCOME 1: FROM DATA TO INFORMATION  Formats & Conventions  What is a format?  What is a convention?  What’s the difference between the two?  Be able to list some common conventions that are used in spread sheets & graphic representations.  Testing techniques  What are the characteristics of an effective solution?  What is the difference between testing & validation?  What ‘tool’ can be used when testing for functionality?

OUTCOME 2: NETWORKS  What is a network?  What do you need to have for successful communications?  Sending/receiving, communications devices, communication channels/transmission media.  What are the advantages & disadvantages of using a network?

OUTCOME 2: NETWORKS  What is a LAN & WAN?  What are the two types of LAN?  What are the types of WAN?  Know some advantages/disadvantages for each.

OUTCOME 2: NETWORKS  Network Protocols  What is a network protocol?  Be able to name some network protocols.  Know what the various communications devices are….  Modems  NICs  WAPs  Switches & Routers  What are the two categories of transmission media?

SO USE IT OVER THE WEEKEND! You will receive the SAC back tomorrow…

OUTCOME 3 ICT in a global society

OUTCOME 3: ICT IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY This outcome covered the following 5 areas of ICT and their impact on their respective stakeholders.

OUTCOME 3: ICT IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY  Look at each of the ICT issues:  Computer Gaming  Social Networking  Robotics & AI  e-Commerce  CLOUD COMPUTING  There is at least ONE question regarding EACH of these particular areas. Know what they are, as well as at least two benefits & disadvantages for each.  Also know how to reduce the risks of each particular issue.

OUTCOME 3: ICT IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY  Know the reasons for the issues  Legal  Social  Environmental  Ethical  There will be a question based on one of these reasons.

OUTCOME 3: ICT IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY  Sources of information  Primary  Secondary  What’s the difference?  What is a Gantt chart?

OUTCOME 3: ICT IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY  The exam also revisits the PSM – Problem-Solving Methodology  Analysis  Design  Development  Evaluation  In Unit 1, we only covered Design & Development so familiarise with what is required in these particular stages (Chapter 4)

OUTCOME 3: ICT IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY  Formats & Conventions are revisited again, however you should have covered these in the previous slideshow. It won’t hurt to go over them again briefly.  Formats & Conventions  What is a format?  What is a convention?  What’s the difference between the two?

BUT HOW DO I GO ABOUT IT? So now I know what I need to revise…

ON THE WIKI…  You will find the following:  Every PowerPoint we have used this semester, grouped by Outcome  Practice Exam  Sample solutions to the TYK Questions (Chapters 1 to 4)  Links  VCEIT.com – more PPTs and information regarding each Key Knowledge criteria  Nelson Self-Tests – Chapters 1 to 4

TO HELP YOU DURING REVISION TIME… Why did I take down all those notes?

REVISION MATERIALS  Self-tests on the NelsonNet website:  http://www.nelsonnet.com.au/infotech http://www.nelsonnet.com.au/infotech  Student Resources (Year 11)  Only Chapters 1-4  Once you “Check your work”, the test tells you what you got right or wrong.  If you get any questions wrong, you should take note of the answer and the text book reference. Read this section.  There will DEFINITELY be questions taken from this resource

WE DON’T WANT TO SEE IT… This came up in last year’s exam &
