2 An adjective modifies or describes a noun or pronoun. An adjectives answers the questions: What kind? How many? Which ones?

3 Green is the adjective. It answers the question, what kind of grass? For example, I like green grass.

4 Two artists painted the mural in Africa. The word two is an adjective. It tells us how many artists worked on the wall painting. This adjective gives specific information about the number of artists.

5 This dog endured the winter weather. This sentence has two adjectives. The first one, this, points to which dog is being discussed. Winter is also an adjective. It tells us what kind of weather is being experienced.

6 Can you find the adjectives in each of the following sentences by asking the questions: Which one? How many? Which kind?

7 The green frog caught the fly with its long tongue, and you know what he did with it.

8 The green frog caught the fly with its long tongue, and you know what he did with it. The adjective green answers the question, what kind of frog? The adjective long answers the question, what kind of tongue the frog had.

9 Mike took a long walk with his Uncle John to see the dentist.

10 The adjective long answers the question, what kind of walk? Also, even though the word uncle is a noun it is also an adjective. It tells us what kind of family relationship Mike has with John.

11 Joe rode this bike when he won the race.

12 The word this is the adjective. It answers the question which one or which bike Joe rode when he won the race.

13 Mandy has to write three book reports this semester, but she would rather write one paper.

14 The words three and one are nouns, but in this case, they are also adjectives. They answer the question, how many? The word this is also an adjective. It answers the question, which one or which semester?

15 The loud students know where to sit on the school bus.

16 The loud students know where to sit on the school bus. Loud is an adjective describing some of the students and school tells you the kind of bus.

17 The End. The loud students know where to sit on the school bus.
