4 Dividing Fractions vs. Multiplying  What is 2½ pizzas divided into 2?

5 Dividing = Multiplying by the Reciprocal  Same problems!  Dividing = Multiplying by Reciprocal… What is Reciprocal?

6 Reciprocal – flipping fraction  Switch Numerator and Denominator (top and bottom)  If starting with a whole number (7), put it over 1  And then flip it!

7 Practice  Find the reciprocal of each number…  Always leave reciprocal as improper fraction

8 How do we put this all back together?  Dividing = multiplying by the reciprocal

10 Practice with your neighbor…  Please find the following quotients (answers to division statements)

12 Tips for Dividing  Copy, change, flip Keep…  Only cancel AFTER you flip  Make sure you change from dividing to multiplying when you flip

13 Reflection Question… How are multiplying and dividing fractions connected? How are they similar? How are they different? Where do you think students would be most likely to make a mistake while dividing? Use letter, numbers, symbols, words, ANYTHING you need to explain your thinking!
