2. Native Americans 30,000 years ago Asian hunters arrived to America. In 1492 Columbus discovered America. In 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers arrived.

3. Independence In 1775 the American Revolution broke out. On 4 th July 1776 the Americans drew up the Declaration of Independence.

4. The gold rush In 1948 a man found a piece of gold. In 1949 many people went to California in search of gold.

5. The blacks African slaves were brought by Europeans to North America.They had a few rights.

6. American civil war Between 1861 and 1865 the American civil war broke. The North won the war and slavery was abolished.

7. After the war Segregation and discrimination continued.

8. Martin Luther King He was a black leader who organized not violent marches and protests. He had a dream that his children could sit down with white people. He was killed in 1968.

9. King's dream On 20 th January 2009 his dream came true because Barack Obama, a black person, became President of the USA.
