The Different Colors of Wine By: Aaron Coristine

What Is Wine? Wine, an alcoholic beverage, is a drink made from the fermented juices of different types and sizes of grapes The different types of grapes determine the taste of the wine, as well as the color of the wine, to an extent

How Many Colors of Wine Are There and What Are They? You may be finding yourself asking the question, are there several types of wine? But there is good news for you, I have an answer to that. There are 3 colors of wine, which are: Red Rosé White

Fact or Fiction? When making wine, the color, type, and size of grape, as well as whether it is a seed grape or seedless grape, determines the color and taste of the wine?

Trick Question!!! The answer is Fact AND Fiction. If you guessed that, you were right. If not, well, you were wrong

Red Wine Red Wines are made from either purple or black grapes, otherwise known as dark grapes The color of the wine does not come from the juices inside the grape, because the juices are white or clear in all grapes The skin of the dark grapes are left to ferment with the juices, where the red pigments of the skin leach into the juices, changing the color from clear to red

Rosé Wine Rosé Wines are in between White and Red, also known as ‘Blush’ Wines Rosé Wines are made through the obvious fermentation of grape juices, however instead of leaving all the skin from dark grapes in, only a little skin is left in where pigments mix with the juices, giving it a pink or very light red color Also, Rosé Wines are made from adding a certain amount of Red Wine to a fermenting White Wine

White Wine White Wines can be made from dark or light grapes, however if using dark grapes be sure that no skin is allowed in the juice when fermenting so skin pigment does not mix with the juice The color of White Wine comes from the removal of all skins, whether dark or light, and is solely the fermentation of the tasty grape juices

Difference in Tastes: Red Wine Red Wines are meant to be drank in a wide glass, where 1/3 of the glass is filled so when it is swirled around, the pleasurable aroma of red wine is fully appreciated and smelt Red Wine is the highest graded wine, being such a favorite amongst others due to the substance tannin Tannin has a bitter or dry flavor, often leaving a distinct feeling behind the jaw and a dry taste to the wine, which is an acquired taste

Taste of White Wine White Wine is meant to be chilled and rank out of a longer Wine glass so that the heat from a hand does not warm it up White Wines are sweeter than Red Wines, however are not as popular nor preferable amongst wine Conosur’s
