2. What is it?
The Enhancement Course is to provide you with time in S1 to build on skills and values learnt in primary school and develop them for further use across the secondary curriculum and into adult life.
You will have two periods a week of this course.

3. The course will cover:
Literacy – reading, writing, listening and talking
Numeracy – life skills maths
Values – based on the 6 Columba 1400 values of awareness, focus, creativity, perseverance, integrity and service
Skills – based on the school’s focus of problem solving, communication, working with others, personal awareness
Eco-schools – global awareness
BRAW Award – a course designed to give you the opportunity to contribute to the school and the wider community, and be rewarded for your efforts. BrAw will also recognise your achievements and success both in and out of school

4. ACTIVITY 1 Two truths and a lie ACTIVE LISTENING
You are going to play the game “Two truths and a Lie”.
You will need to listen carefully to what is being said as you will be using this information in Activity 2.

5. The rules
1. On a piece of paper, write down three statements about yourself. Two of the statements should be true and one should be a lie
2. Your teacher will select a person to go first. That person should read aloud the three statements
The rest of the class has to vote on which statement they think is a lie
The person will reveal the correct answer. You should take a tally of the ones you got correct
Each person will have the chance to tell their “Two truths and a lie”.
Once everyone has read their statements the person with the most correct guesses has won the game.

6. ACTIVITY 2 Stand up and pair up The tallest of the pair speaks first
Tell your partner what the most interesting
thing was that you found out about another
member of the class. Give them a reason
Swap roles
Listen carefully.
The teacher might ask you to feedback your partner’s answer to the class, so have your active listening ears on!

You are going to design a shield or badge that represents you.
