1 2/11/13 NO School Lincoln's Birthday

2 2/12/2013 Standards: 3 (Stoichiometry) Objectives: ● Students will be able to perform well on Quiz 3.2 (Ch 11 and 12) DO NOW: 1. Pick 2 problems that you had trouble with. For each problem: a. write the given & find. b. write how you think you should start each problem 2. After doing #1, start your homework for tonight HOMEWORK: 1. Ch 11.3, 11.5, and Ch 12.1, 12.2, and 12.4 - Quiz 3.2 Practice Test Odds only from both sides of handout. USE SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER, DO NOT PRINT (5 pts) Std 3 2. Help Sheet - 1/2 8.5 x 11" paper, one side only. Start with name, date and period in the top right corner! (5 pts) Std 3 =========================================================== BASKET (Stamped): Journal 2/8 (Friday last week) 1. Ch 11.3, 11.5, and Ch 12.1, 12.2, and 12.4 - Quiz 3.2 Practice Test Evens only from both sides of handout. (5 pts) Std 3 Buybacks for Quiz 3.1 at lunch today

14 Follow BuyBacks Directions or no credit!!! 1. Find your scantron 2. Your test # from the scantron helps you to find your test 3. Label an 8.5x11" sheet of paper in top right: Name: _____ Date: _____ Period: ____ 4. Copy each question you need inclulding its # on your version of the test. 5. Write the correct answer (its letter and what it is) 6. If calculation problem, show your calculations. If not calculation: find page# in text where it could be answered and acomplete reason for the answer being correct. Each question done correctly gives you back 1/2 of the points you lost for the wrong answer.

15 Stop Time 12:58 If any tests disappear, no one will be given credit for anything

16 Returning your materials: 1. Staple your scantron to the back side of your paper and turn in to white basket. 2. Return test into its proper numeric sequence. If out of order, you will not be given any credit for your efforts today.

17 2/13/2013 Standards: 3 (Gases & their Properties) Objectives: ● Check for understanding with Quiz 3.2 (Ch 11 & 12) DO NOW: 1. Clear desks & floors except: scantron, scratch paper, pencil, eraser, calculator, food or drink. All else on side counters. HOMEWORK: 1. ChemThink - Behavior of Gases - Tutorial (5 pts) Due tonight Midnight; & Questions (10 pts) Due tomorrow night Midnight Std 4 (Gases & Their Properties) =========================================================== BASKET (goes in gradebook): 1. Ch 11.3, 11.5, and Ch 12.1, 12.2, and 12.4 - Quiz 3.2 Practice Test Odds only from both sides of handout. (5 pts) Std 3 Stamped at desk: 1. Help Sheet (5 pts)

22 2/14/2013 Standards: 4 (Gases and their Properties) ● Be able to calculate KE and Rate of Effusion ● Expose students to gas simulators (3) and students will understand that pressure, temperature, and size of chamber (volume) are all inter-related. DO NOW: 1. Define all vocabulary terms given on page 385, HOMEWORK: 1. Ch 13.1, p. 388 PP's 1-3, p. 415 Ch 13 Assess 62-64 (Answers: 62 36.0 g/mol; 63 R Kr / R Ne 0.493; 64 3.56 g/mol) App A Ch 13.1 p. 878 1 & 2 (Answers: 1 1.32:1; 2 58 g/mol) =========================================================== BASKET (nothing): Love is in the air, everyone is bouncing off the walls, just like gas molecules 6-10 1-5 ChemThink questions due tonight mid-night.

23 Extra Credit Opportunity Bring up to 2 boxes of Kleenex. 5 pts ex cr for each. Requirements : 1. Must be largest boxes available 2. Must be 3 - ply

29 Typical problems using formula (this slide and next) Given Find What is the ratio of effusion for Cl 2 and F 2. Similar to #1 & 2 on p. 388 Note: 4 variables in equality, you will always be given 3 of them and be asked to solve for the 4th. molar mass Cl 2 = 70 molar mass F 2 = 38 Cl 2 F2

30 Given Find What is the molar mass of B? Molar mass of A = 2.5 g/mol Rate of effusion of B = 3 times that of A Similar to problem 3 on p. 388 Note: 4 variables in equality, you will always be given 3 of them and be asked to solve for the 4th.

31 2/15/2013 Standards: 4 (Gases and their Properties) OBJECTIVES: ● Students will be able to understand Graham's Law of Effusion and apply to results in their mini-lab. DO NOW: 1. Read lab sheet (today's handout) silently, to yourself. 2. Mini-Lab "Mass vs Velocity of Molecules" will be due Tuesday (10 pts) Std 4 HOMEWORK: 1. SN Ch 13.1 pages 171-174 (5 pts) Std 4 =========================================================== BASKET (stamped): Journal 2/14 (include what you learned from Questions - ChemThink (Behavior of Gases) and yesterday's lesson. 1.Ch 13.1, p. 388 PP's 1-3, p. 415 Ch 13 Assess 62-64 App A Ch 13.1 p. 878 1 & 2 Staple

37 You are to calculate the % error for your calculations. You are comparing the relative rate you get with the molar mass and comparing it to the rate you get by your counts. On the back of your papers you will be showing your relative rates that are calculated by Graham's Law: In question 7 you are using actual counts you see on the computer simulations. (left side) In question 8 your are calculating the relative rates based on the molar masses of the molecules.
