3. Pencils B pencils = soft, darker, more graphite than clay H pencils – harder, lighter, more clay less graphite Wide range of values

4. Charcoal Wide range of values and deep intense blacks Vine or stick – lighter values Compressed – richer, blacker, harder to erase Charcoal pencils – hard to soft

5. Ink Black, brown and variety of colors Used with brushes for washes Pens and nubs for line drawings

6. Charcoal Paper bumpy, has teeth to grab and hold charcoal or pastel Drawing paper smooth, range of thickness, we use 80# for final pencil or ink drawings Ground = Paper

7. Viewfinder A rectangular opening that is in scale to your paper. Edges used to determine where things are on paper. Blocks out unwanted visual information

8. Sighting Stick A stick or pencil Measure objects Determine proportions with drawing Calculate angles within drawing
