Determinism vs. Free will
Free will free and independent choice; voluntary decision; Philosophy- the doctrine that the conduct of human beings expresses personal choice and is not simply determined by physical or divine forces
Determinism every event, including human cognition and behavior, decision and action, is caused by (determined by) an unbroken chain of prior occurrences
Determinism continued the doctrine that all facts and events exemplify natural laws; the doctrine that all events, including human choices and decisions, have causes
Determinism continued the view that human actions are entirely controlled by previous conditions, operating under laws of nature. Determinism is often understood as ruling out free will.
