1 Thunderstorms Chapter 17:Storms Section 2 By: Kyle Dodge

2 Storms A storm is a violent disturbance in the atmosphere.

3 Thunderstorms A lightning bolt will heat up to about 30,000 C. The heated air expands to an explosion creating thunder.

4 Lightning Lightning occurs when electricity hops from cloud to cloud or cloud to ground.

5 Tornadoes They mostly occur during a thunderstorms. They’re whirling, funnel-shaped cloud that touches the ground.

6 Hurricanes It starts as a tropical storm then grows in size and strength spiraling inward to low pressure areas. The eye of a storm is calm where the sun can show through.

7 Winter storms Air from Canada goes southeast over the Great Lakes then dropping temp. causing lake-effect snow. Keep your self warm and cover exposed body parts.
